CHAPTER 13: INTERFERENCE

For one straight week, I camped at dad's hospital room. I stuck my bag in one corner of the room and all I unpacked were a couple of sweat pants and loose shirts as well as my toiletries.

Dad was getting better. He was sitting up a few days ago and was muttering short phrases to us. He was yet to regain his strength, but his progress was good.

I leaned forward on the window, looking down on the street in front of the hospital.

"Blake..." I heard my dad whisper softly. I walked over and helped him sit up on his bed.
"Why are you....still here?"
"To watch over you." I sat beside him.
"Go home..." I smiled at him as he slowly brushed a hand against my cheek.
"No." I said defiantly.
"...your mum...will take care of me..."
"And I will, too." He shook his head slowly. "I'm staying until you get out of this place."
"...at least......go and unpack..."
I planted a kiss on his cheek. "I will as soon as they get back. Rest now."

A few days after promising dad I'll unpack at home, I did. It was then that I realized I had neglected my cell phone and everyone else who contacted me through it. I looked at it. twenty missed calls and twelve messages. Wow.

I dialled Rachel's number.

"Hey." I greeted slowly.
"Blake? Gosh! I thought you'd be dead by now!"
"I'm that rotten, huh? I'm so sorry."
"No you're not. I'm just worried. What happened?"
"Dad. Heart attack. Go figure." I shrugged.
"Well, is he okay?"
"Coping. How's Danny?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" She said matter-of-factly.
"I haven't talked to him in a while, to be honest."
"I guessed. The lad's been in my apartment almost everyday since last week."
"I guess I owe him a phone call. Talk to you later?"
"You better. Bye."

I sighed very loudly. It's ironic that I feel scared about calling Danny instead of feeling a bit better.

"Danny? It's me..."
"I know..." He replied rather coldly.
"Can I start with 'I'm sorry'?"
"Apology accepted. Now give me a reason."
I sighed and sat on my bed. "Dad...he's had a heart attack. Had to be here for him."
"Would it hurt to call me two minutes or even just send me a text then?"
"Guess not. And I'm sorry. I just feel really guilty about not being around when it all happened."
"When will he be out of there?"
"One more week."
"So you'll be a ghost for another week?"
"Possibly. I'm really really sorry."
He sighed. "It's okay. We need to have a one on one after you get back over here though."
"I'll talk to you soon. Love you." I said softly.
"Tell you mum and dad I said 'hi'. Good bye, Blake." With that, the line went dead.

I don't blame him for getting angry. He had every right to be angry. I can't help myself though. How would you feel if something bad happened to someone in your family and you were the last to know?

I got in my bed, pulled the covers over my body and closed my eyes. At that very moment, memories of Danny started flashing through my mind like a movie.

I hope he's not mad enough to break up with me. I don't know what I'd do if he did.

"I miss you more than you think...." I breathed quietly as I drifted off to sleep.

CHAPTER 14: HE'S THE ONE THAT I NEED

The next week, I tried my best not to be a "ghost", as Danny put it. I tried calling him every minute I can and I sent him texts as well. He was a lot happier but I don't know if it was just acting or genuine. Somehow, I still feel that he hadn't forgiven me for not calling.

"Are you all packed?" Mom walked in my room. I smiled at her. It felt like I was moving out of the house the first time again.
"Yeah, mom. I'll be out in a minute." I rubbed myhands together.
"Okay. Dinner is ready." She walked out of my room.

I didn't tell Danny when I was coming home. Dad's been out of the hospital for two days now and he's holding up fine.
I smie spread across my face as an idea popped into my mind. I can't be too late for a surprise, is it?

"Mom? I'm not staying for dinner." I called from the top of the sairs as I carried my bag down on one hand. I dialled Rachel's number and held the phone against my ear.
"Why not dear?" Mom asked from the kitchen.
"I'm going ho-"
"Hello?" I heard Rachel answer.
"Are the guys with you?" I asked as I entered the kitchen where my family sat in a table.
"No. Why?"
"Do you know where they are?" I turned my back towards my familuy as they gave me crazy stares.
"Not really. I don't think they have plans though."
"Thank you!" I semi-scremed as I turned back to my family and walked between my mom and dad. "I'll see you in a bit. Don't tell anybody. Mwah!" I hung up and a kiss on my mom and dad's cheeks.
"I'm heading back. Call me if you need anything, okay? And Klara...be good." I finally placed a kiss on my sisters cheek and looked back at my family who sat quietly and looked at me.
"What? No goodbye?" I said with a laugh.
"Take care of yourself dear. I'm so proud of you. I love you." My dad spoke up.
I smiled and knelt beside him. "I love you too daddy."

I left them that night and headed to the train station. As much as I wanted to stay longer at the home I knew so well, I had a life in London......and I boyfriend to make up to.
Luckily, the last train to London was around six and I had about ten more minutes to get there.

I toyed with my mobile as anticipation ruled over my body. I don't know what he'll say or what will happen, all I know is I need to be there beside him. I need him.
Slowly, the train decreased speed and when it finally halted to a complete stop, I was on my feet and running out to the cab.
I gave the cab driver Danny's address and told him to hurry. The man seemed to sense my anticipation and excitement as he obliged.

"Here." I handed him a ten pound note and ran up to Danny's front steps. I took a few breathes and pressed the buzzer a couple of times. I was practically jumping up and down rying to figure out if he was home.
Suddenly, a light from his room flicked on. I wide smile fixed itself on my face.
As soon as I saw Danny emerge from the door, I grabbed him and crashed my lips into his. I felt him smile as he placed his hands around my hips and pulled me closer.

"I've been waiting for you to come home, you know?" Danny said softly as he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and stroked my cheek.
"I know. I guess I've just been caught up with family matters to notice. And I'm sorry." I snuggled against his chest.
"It's okay." He said reassuringly.

We had a quiet dinner in. We ordered take away and just talked. I was right, he didn't fully forgive me. But after some explaining, he did. I plan on staying the night over at his house. Who would've thought we'd miss out a lot on each other with just two weeks?

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ

"Woah. Since when did you get those?" Danny said mockingly.
"Ewww. I never thought you were a perv!" I hit him lightly and answered my phone." I felt my face flush and cold, hard wind rushed past me.
"My dad is in critical condition..."
