CHAPTER 12

"Bella. Visitor." Mum called from downstairs.
"Just a sec." I combed my hair in place and ran down the steps. I stopped abruptly on the last step when I saw Dougie.
"Oh. I thought it was Max." I walked slowly towards him.
"Just me." He chuckled.
I flashed him a small smile. "Need anything?"
I saw him hesitate for a second before blurting out, "Can we go for a walk?"
"Sure. Let me go grab a jacket." I rushed up the steps to my room and grabbed my jacket, cell phone and keys before rushing back down.
We walked towards the park where Dougie and Marco first hung out.
"So what's up?"
"I don't know." He replied preoccupied and deep in thought. "I can't stop saying sorry."
"Forget about it. Apology long accepted." I waved my arm for emphasis. Henodded his head thoughtfully.
"How've you been?" He studied me closely.
"Coping up fine. I'm now very god with ignoring people." I declared jokingly.
"That's great news!" He replied enthusiastically. "And your studies?"
"Very good as well. How about you, Doug? How've you been?"
"Equally as good, maybe."

We walked around and talked for quite some time. Amazingly, it didn't feel awkward at all. It was like Dougie was back and it felt great to be able to talk to him like that again.
Unfortunately, Max sent me a text saying she was on her way to the mall. I didn't want to leave Dougie now that I've found him again, but Max and I declared today our 'Girls' Day Out' and it wouldn't be fair on her part.

"Max and I have something planned today. I have to go. I'm sorry." I turned towards Dougie.
"It's okay. I'm thankful enough you considered talking to me." He smiled genuinely. "I'll walk you home." He held out his hand and I took it with a contented smile.
I've missed the feeling of my hand tucked in his. It gave me a sense of security and it let me know I wasn't alone. There was something about his touch that let me know he loved me.........and I know for sure that I love him more than anybody can ever imagine.

"Max!" I hurried beside the brunette near the shopping stores.
"Finally! Where've you been?"
I was about to tell her about my unplanned meet up with Dougie, but decided against it. I didn't want today to be about me and Dougie. Today was Max and Aribella day.
"Nothing. Just a couple of things back home." I shrugged. "Come on."
"Where to?" She linked her arm with mine and we marched towards the other stores.
"No agenda. Just wherever our feet takes us." I pointed forward with a laugh.

Two and a half hours later, we finally stopped for a break from goofing around and laughing at each other.
"It's between McDonald's and the food court." Max said.
"Let's see what we can get from the food court." I grabbed her arm and pulled her to the other direction.

As we walked towards the food court, there was this weird feeling in the back of my mind. It was sort of telling me that something bad will, might or already happened. I continued walking; trying to shake off the feeling.

From the corner of my eye, I saw a blonde and brunette standing in the distance. The boy had his arms around her and they both seemed comfy. A little too comfy.

"Is that...?" I said faintly.

Too late. Far too late.
The guy turned slightly, but just enough to let me know who he was. I didn't bother trying to figure out who the girl was........I knew too well who the sl*ut was.

"Uhmmm." I cleared my throat. "I suddenly have a craving for McDonald's." I swallowed the lump in my throat and blinked back the tears.

What I got from the food court was heartbreak.

CHAPTER 13

Throughout the whole afternoon, I tried to plaster on a smile and pretended nothing was wrong. Max was a good sport. She didn't act all that bothered. Although I knew she sensed something was up, I don't think she saw Dougie and that girl.

I left earlier than I had planned. I couldn't pretend any longer or I would have broken down. What I did was make up a lame excuse and hid somewhere except home. Marco would've found out if I went straight home.

Where did I go? I rode a cab to my old elementary in the outskirts of town. The moment I walked towards the abandoned playground, tears started running down my cheeks. I sank to the ground and sobbed quietly.
"How can you do this to me?" I looked down at my hands while I whispered the question over and over again. The non-stop tears blurred my vision but I didn't care. I had so much emotion in me that I just couldn't stop.

For what seemed like hours, the tears finally stopped falling but the memory of them together replayed in my head like a broken plaque.

My mind was not at ease and it roamed all possibilities there could be. Each one didn't make me feel better and just hurt me even more.

I breathed in and out deeply and calmed myself. When I finally did calm down, I was able to think straight. i promised myself that I'd ask for his side of the story.

With that, I wiped away my tears and got up to my feet. I surveyed the playground carefully.

Dougie flashed me a smile from where he stood. I walked up to him with a blank and emotionless expression.
His warm smile made me want to slap him.
"Got a minute?"
I saw him do a quick glance around us before finally nodding. I led him to one quiet corner of the hall.
"How was your Saturday?" I tried to keep my sarcasm at low key.
"Uhhh. It was okay."
"Had fun?" My sarcasm definately was showing.
"I guess?" He said softly.
"Okay. Stop!" I looked at him angrily. "Who were you with?"
"What?"
"Answer the question Doug."
He looked at me with a confused expression. "Look. If there's something wrong, can you just tell me."
"I saw you with another girl." I put emphasis on ANOTHER.
"I was not."
"Don't fuc*king lie to me!" My voice grew fierce.
"It was probably my friend." he argued.
My blood boiled by the fact that he wouldn't admit it. He knew well that I saw him but he just wouldn't admit it.
Was he defending her?
"With Angela?" I almost screamed. "How could you?"
I stomped off and left behind a speechless Dougie.
